The book was a challenge to me in a number of ways. First, the obvious question: what would I do if faced with the physical pain he suffered for the name of Jesus Christ? Would I be a Judas, or would I stand for Christ? Well, the answer is simple to find, and it is found in my life already. What am I willing to suffer for Christ now? Am I willing to suffer misunderstanding, rejection, a few harsh words? Am I willing to endure perhaps a little physical discomfort? My commitment to Christ now in times of ease will be my commitment to Christ in times of difficulty.
Then I was challenged about my own work for Christ. This man was constantly working for Christ, always and in every situation reaching out to the souls of men around them and impacting them with the life of Jesus Christ. This under great persecution and at great cost. I suffer no persecution, and the cost is so little. Certainly, I should be able to do more with fewer barriers, not less!
The biggest challenge came to my walk with the Lord. Yun walked with God in an intimate, real way. He was acutely in tune to the voice of his Master. This relationship came at a high price: this knowing Christ came as Yun knew the fellowship of His suffering. So the question is, how much am I willing to pay for this kind of relationship with God? Am I willing for God to do anything, anything, in order that I might know Him in an ever deeper way?
