How Relevant Is The Bible? And Other Commentaries On Scripture

As a biblical scholar John L. McKenzie ranks at the very top of the scale, nationally and internationally. He is as highly regarded by Protestant colleagues as by his fellow Catholics. But it is not just for his scholarship that he is valued by the general reader. He is a superbly clear, concise and entertaining (not to mention outspoken) writer. His Dictionary of the Bible is a standard reference and thousands have read, been influenced by and thoroughly enjoyed such McKenzie classics as The Two-Edged Sword, Authority in the Church, Light on the Epistles, The Roman Catholic Church and, most recently, The New Testament without illusion. In the majority of his books, he has confined himself to the exposition of one theme. Here is a chance to share his thinking on a wide variety of biblical topics-a first-rate sampling of McKenzie at large. Besides the title chapter he focuses on (among others) such intriguing subjects as "The Real Jesus," "The Real Mary," "The State in Christian Perspective," '"War and Peace in the New Testament," "Myths in the Bible," "The Book of Revelation” and concludes with "The Bible: A Progress Report."
