Biblical Studies: Meeting Ground Of Jews And Christians
Modern study and interpretation of the Bible has led to many new and exciting insights that promise to open up and expand the common area of dialogue between Christians and Jews. One milestone in this process was the declaration of the Second Vatican Council on the relationship of the Catholic Church to the Jews. Fifteen years after that historic document Nostra Aetate was issued, scholars from both faiths have already explored several dimensions of their shared biblical heritage. This volume contains reflections by notable thinkers of both traditions on the importance of the Scriptures in the Jewish-Christian Dialogue. Three major issues are treated in detail: (1) how modern biblical study affects the dialogue situation; (2) the relation of the Hebrew Scriptures to the New Testament; and (3) the idea of God's revelation from both the Jewish and the Christian perspective.
