Karl Gaspar’s letters from his prison cell reflect the varying moods of those persecuted and detained. The first ones seemed like cries of abandonment and rage; then gradually hope emerged and a deep conviction that the suffering of the detained could, in God’s wisdom, serve a purpose of awakening fearful consciences towards the realization that if this could happen to one person, it could also happen to all of us.
