Toward A Christian Political Ethics
The idealism of Protestant social ethics is not compatible with the autonomy and reality of political life. Jose Miguez Bonino seeks a more realistic approach to ethics which retains the normative characteristics of the biblical faith. He examines several alternatives and bases his discussion upon the concrete historical experience of Latin America, where the option for justice and the cause of the poor is shaping Christianity. This work calls for a movement which allows the incarnation and the demand for justice and solidarity to illumine the problems of power, order, and hope. Miguez Bonino, already noted as perhaps the leading Protestant theologian of Latin America, continues in this work to contribute to the distinctive and compelling theological vision of South America.
