The Covenant Never Revoked: Biblical Reflections On Christian-Jewish Dialogue

Renowned biblical scholar Norbert Lohfink, S.J., argues that Christians and Jews are united in one covenant that is acknowledged and accepted in two distinctly different manners. By considering first the history of revelation and salvation and how it has run its course with Jews and Christians as individual groups, Lohfink discusses the concept of a "covenant." He presents all the biblical texts that speak of the "new" covenant (Hebrews 8:2, 2 Corinthians 3, Romans 9 -11, and Jeremiah 31), and shows us how these texts do not exclude or replace the "old" covenant.
Written in a thoughtful and reflective manner by a great German theologian, this work places the broader context of God's plan above the category of the word covenant. As a result it becomes a great argument for Christians and Jews to understand each other more emphatically . The Covenant Never Revoked was originally published in 1989 as Der Niemals gekudigte Bund and it has been beautifully translated for Paulist Press by John J. Scullion, S.J.
