How are we to read and interpret the social teaching of the church in the Latin American context so that the challenge of gospel values may reach us with undiminished force? As will be clear to the reader the social teaching of the church has not been presented as a veiled way of giving legitimacy to the social injustices that Latin America is suffering, or as an invitation to revolutionary violence, but rather as a call to make faith and life a consistent whole.
