The Nun In The World: Religious And The Apostolate
Cardinal Suenens is known throughout the Catholic world - and beyond - for his keen grasp of present-day realities in relation to the Christian faith and for the trenchancy with which he expresses both his awareness of modern problems and the need for Christians to face them squarely. In this book he examines the place and mission of non-contemplative nuns in the world today. What, he asks, should be their approach to the people with and among whom they work in schools, in hospitals, on the missions? Is there need for a radical change, an approach more positively apostolic? Far from minimizing the great work carried out by nuns, often under conditions calling for nothing less than heroism, or advocating that they should do more, Cardinal Suenens has no intention of "adding to an already overcrowded timetable". Rather he suggests that "the daily timetable be streamlined according to norms dictated by the hierarchy of values".
