The Christian Theatre

Here is a survey of the Christian presence in European drama from the time of the establishment of Christianity as a Western religion to the present day. The development of this presence as found in the morality plays of the Middle Ages, Elizabethan and Jacobean Drama, the Jesuit theatre of the 17th century, and the replacement of theology by moralism in the works of such playwrights as Goethe and Ibsen, is followed through to the 20th century in a discussion of the work of Christian dramatists such as T. S. Eliot and Graham Greene.
