In March l974 the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) through the Office for Human Development (OHD) initiated the formation of the Bishops' Institute for Social Action (BISA) and, later, the Asian Institutes for Social Action (AISA). The intention was to bring the rich reflection and methodology of the BISAs down to the level of implementation in a diocese.
This book presents the experiences of AISA I whose theme was "Becoming the Church of the Poor with Special Reference to Urban Workers". It hopes to inspire bishops, parish priests, religious communities and the laity to bring the social teachings of the Asian Bishops to the level
of the grassroots... a way of bringing the Gospel of hope into the lives of people.
