Asia-Church In Mission: Exploring Ad Gentes Mission Initiatives Of The Local Churches In Asia In The Vatican II Era
Asia's local churches are awakening to mission In the Vatican II Era several important "Asian-born" mission efforts have been initiated in the Philippines, India, Korea, and Thailand. Other Asian churches share in the universal mission of the Church by sending their personnel through international mission institutes of women and men. Asia is a continent of emerging missionary hope.
Asia-Church in Mission specifically explores those indigenous mission initiatives that have ad gentes evangelization as their primary charism. Additional significant mission responses are present in Asia, particularly among Asia's energetic and dedicated laity; religious women have emerged as an evangelizing force in Asia. Their stories deserve an appreciative narration and documentation, though they exceed the scope of this work. Complementary materials, drawn from the "Asian Synod" and the Asian Bishops (FABC), both illuminate and contextualize these mission initiatives. Current statistics of the Church in Asia illustrate the perennial challenges for the Asian churches to be in the permanent state of mission: Go and teach, witness and serve, love and liberate!
