The Art Of Existential Counseling: A New Perspective In Psychotherapy

Father Peter G. van Breemen's first book deals directly and cogently with the confrontation of God and man in prayer. It treats specifically biblical themes and Gospel incidents to explore the meaning of prayer, acceptance, faith, sin, service, suffering, and joy. Quietly, without benefit of the great advertising funds available to so many lesser books published in our generation, the work was passed from hand to hand and discussed by important religious leaders until suddenly it skyrocketed to the head of the major lists of best-selling books' Its importance in 1974, the date of its first publication in case bound form, can hardly be over-emphasized. Father Edward Farrell, himself the author of four very important Catholic book, called the work "a dangerous book.", "Read with faith and openness, it will compel you to follow Him more totally or to go away sad' (Mk 10:22)." In the February 8,1975 issue of America John McDonald recommended the work as "a stirring book (which) reveals the depth and clarity of the author's insights into the Gospel message." Writing in the Review for Religious, Sister Ann Goggin enthusiastically recommended the book as "timely and valuable, “ "a clearly written and perspective work stemming from (the author’s) own life with God which he graciously shares.
