The season of Lent provides an ideal time to focus again on the person who is at the heart of our Christian faith-Jesus. The readings for this year are mainly from Luke. In Luke's gospel we see Jesus as someone who has compassion for the outcasts of society and those who suffer oppression and discrimination.
He is also fixed on a destination. We travel with Jesus as he journeys through Galilee and from there to Jerusalem, and a final confrontation with the political and religious leaders of his time. While the death and resurrection of Jesus are central events to Christianity, it is his day-to-day existence that shows us how to live out our Christianity.
