The Gospel Sustains Me: The Word Of God In The Life And Love Of Saint Thérèse Of Lisieux

Therese Martin better known as Saint Therese of Lisieux or "The Little Flower" is one of the best-loved saints of modern times. Dying in 1897 at the age of just twenty-four, Therese experienced God's love and mercy in a powerful and radical way. She sought nothing less than to be friends with God whom she regarded as a tender-hearted parent, and in her autobiographical writings she taught others how to trust God with all the simple confidence of a child. In The Gospel Sustains Me, brothers from Saint Therese's Carmelite Community reflect upon the central place of the Bible in her life and spirituality. As the Superiors General of the Carmelite Family point out, Therese's message echoes Christ's plan of life, inviting us to pass from the image of God-as-Judge to that of God as Father-Mother; from the quest for perfection to the quest for communion with God; from laws that enslave us to the law of real and effective love which liberates us.
