I want to reflect a little on the connection between working for peace and justice the Carmelite vocation. We form contemplative communities in the midst of the people and in this way we bear witness to God but who is this God who has called us and whom we seek to serve?... As we grow and mature, our image of God changes because no image we can have of God is God. We are challenged to examine our image of God by the secularism of our times and the rise of, the otherworldly sects in many parts of the developing world. We speak much of contemplation, which is the transforming action of God within us, but who is the God of our contemplation?
