Resurrection Reconsidered / Gavin D'Costa (Edited)

Resurrection Reconsidered is an impressive collection of scholarly essays exploring what many consider to be the central issue of the Christian faith: The resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The international array of writers represented offers a wide range of positions on the issue from a literal/historical perspective to a feminist/psychoanalytic stance and continuing on to include commentaries on the resurrection from the viewpoint of Islam, Judaism and Buddhism. Profiles of the contributing writers are included and provide a good bit of biographical material on each individual. These profiles enable the reader to better understand and account for the unique approach of each writer to the subject matter at hand. The editor, Gavin D'Costa, is senior lecturer in theology in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Bristol. He has assembled a fine collection here, and contributes one essay of his own entitled, "The Resurrection, The Holy Spirit and The World Religions." Resurrection Reconsidered should easily appeal to scholars, students, clergy and lay persons. It offers a provocative foretaste of the sort of theologically pluralistic debate that is likely to be common in the twenty-first century.
