Sexuality And The Psychology Of Love
Freud's discovery of the pre-eminent role of sex in breeding neuroses resulted in theories that changed the thinking of the world. He was a champion of greater sexual understanding in a society that whispered the words he used out loud and concealed its interest in the subjects he wrote about so explicitly. The importance of sexuality and infantilism in shaping individual destiny sets the general theme for these early studies of sex and love. Elaborating his now famous frustration theory, Freud illustrates dramatically the strangulation of "natural man" by a sex-scared society. He analyzes the problems of male impotence and female frigidity and, in the process, reveals his opinion of the character of "normal" love. His exploration of sexual perversion reduces much of the mystification surrounding masochism, sadism, and-perhaps the most puzzling of all-homosexuality. Here is Freud of his most brilliant, raising the curtain on a new era of sexual and social awareness.
