Contemporary Architecture in Hong Kong is a book that will give the readers a survey of the latest developments in architectural design in Hong Kong. It will provide an insight into the success of the Hong Kong Government in meeting the everchanging demand in public building, urban design, new satellite towns, and above all, it pressing housing programme which has been the headache of many other nations. The book is divided into two major parts. The first consists of reviews by the compiler and articles from the Director of the Hong Kong Architectural Services Department, the former Hong Kong Government Secretary of Housing, and the Principal Government Town Planner of the Buildings and Lands Department who was an Assistant Directory of Planning. Territory Development Departement. These people are responsible fot the success of many new satellite towns in Hong Kong.
The second part is a collection of projects by private architects and government departments. The entries include the controversial headquarters of the Hong Kong Bank by a British architecture, the Hong Kong Club by an Australian architect as well as many others.
The compilation of this information has taken more than two years of hard work and public relations.
There are 176 pages, 237 colour plates, 7 black & white plates and 187 plans and sections. Also included are articles and write-ups for each of these projects.
