The Oxford History Of Britain / Kenneth O. Morgan (Edited)

The Oxford History of Britain tells the story of Britain and her peoples over two thousand years, from the coming of the Roman legions to the present day.
The dramatic narrative of developments throughout the British Isles is taken up in turn by ten leading historians, who offer the fruits of the best modern scholarship in an authoritative and accessible form. The relationship between the political, economic, social, and cultural transfoirnations in British history is explored and reveals a vivid and sometimes surprising picture of a continuous turmoil of change in every period. But there also emerges a pattern of continuity in British cultural and social ideals, and a special awareness of nationality and patriotism which has been such a distinctive feature of British society.
The text is based on that of Kenneth O. Morgan's The Oxford Illustrated History of Britain and, includes a consolidated chronology of events from the expeditions of Caesar in 55-54 BC to the 1987 General Election; eighteen maps; genealogies of monarchs; a table of Prime Ministers; and a full index. An annotated guide to further reading is also provided.
