Patterns Of Prayer In The Psalms
Here is a book of great value to all who regularly use the Psalms in prayer, whether as part of an official daily office or in their private devotions. Throughout, the Psalms are seen as examples of prayer into which twentieth century Christians can enter. Exegetical questions are not ignored, and there are helpful explanations of basic Hebrew terms and concepts, but the principal thrust is on the prayer experience the Psalms are not meant to be “perfect prayers for perfect people”, but prayers for real people full of imperfections and contradictions that we sometimes prefer to forget or ignore. Laurence Dunlop is a priest and is Assistant Professor of Theology at Loyola University of Chicago. He holds a Doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute Rome.
