Mathematics For Elementary Teachers

This modern text for the training of teachers in elementary school mathematics uses an intuitive development of the number system and informal geometry. With the use of this book the pre-service and in-service teacher can present any of the new mathematics curricula that have so recently come into being. By following the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics level I and by using set theory and set notation throughout the book, the authors have kept to the new curricula more closely than any other book. Developmental problems afford the student an opportunity for further study, if needed. These problems include many that are non-routine in format, humorous, and that apply to everyday life.
The authors are two of the twelve consultants picked by CUPM to write the course outlines for the training of elementary teachers. Both have long experience in teaching at the public school and college level.
