Professor Stark employs a typological approach reminiscent of Niebuhr and Wach, but everywhere involves himself
with theoretical questions in the style of Weber and Troeltsch. His handling of a wide range of historical erudition is all the more remarkable because he focuses exclusively on Christianity and in greater depth than any of his predecessors. The scholarly quality of the work so far promises to place the author among the classical and perduring experts in this area of sociological investigation. Despite limitations found in any human production, this is unquestionably a master work.
