This is a book about what a Christian means when he says, "I believe". This book does not shirk the obstacles to belief that flourish in the mental climate of our times: the difficulty of believing that Christ was what he claimed to be, the existence of other religions, the idea that all we do is guided by suhconscious fears and desires, faith in an abstract notion of human progress, the
failure of so many Christians to live by their faith, sheer despair of believing in anything except death in the world as it is today.
