Journey To The Interior: American Versions Of Haibun / Bruce Ross (Edited)

Haibun is a beautiful Japanese form of autobiographical poetic prose accompanied by verse, usually haiku. Haibun in America has evolved into many forms over the years, including the travel journals of such authors as Henry David Thoreau, Jack Kerouac, and Gary Snyder. In this collection Bruce Ross invites us on a journey of self-discovery with over twenty-five contemporary North American authors of Haibun. Their work, in styles ranging from humorous to solemn, explores such themes as the self, the emotional nature of love, and the sense of dwelling in places both familiar and unknown. Journey to the Interior is the first anthology specifically devoted to original Haibun written in English and reflects some of the most moving, personal, and spiritual literature being produced today.
