The Pastoral Symphony
The Pastoral Symphony is one of Gide's most famous books which tells a story about a pastor who adopts a young blind girl names Gertrude. It deals with the idea of blindness; although Gertrude is evidently blind physically, the pastor himself is blind in his morality. Gide has woven a madrigal myth and the destruction of dreams of a pastoral world. With The Pastoral Symphony, Gide won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1947.
