Since the Third Edition was published some years ago, experience in both the laboratory and classroom has rendered a thorough revision necessary. The text has therefore been exhaustively revised, considerably enlarged and completely reset in the present edition. It is virtually a new book incorporating all the features which have proved so popular with students, teachers, reviewers and others in the past. Various rearrangements have been made which, it is hoped, will enhance the value to the book: thus the technique of semimicro analysis is now incorporated in Chapter II (Experimental Technique of Qualitative Analysis). The author has again aimed to provide a text-book of macro and semimicro qualitative inorganic analysis which can be employed by the student continuously throughout his study of the subject. The requirements of beginners in qualitative analysis (both macro and semimicro) have been specifically catered for in individual Chapters.
