In recent years there has been a boom in the study of the social sciences at all levels. Many new courses in sociology and associated subjects are being offered at colleges and universities and sociological terms are freely used in the press, on television and in everyday speech. Yet all too often these terms are used inaccurately and the methods of sociology are misunderstood.
