Sex And The Christian

How to come to terms with sex is a niajor problem in our society. The Catholic Church stands alone in its rejection of the compromises proposed by contemporary moralists and its critics accuse it of clinging to outmoded and negative tabbos that have no reasonable basis. This book clarifies many misunderstandings of the Church's teaching and discusses with sympathy the anxieties of those who find that teaching too hard. The first part describes the theological and scriptural foundations of the Churih's teaching on sex. Part two faces the facts of sexual differentiation, the tensions of adolescent life and the complex inter-relation between man's body and his psyche. Part three deals with the sexual problems of our time: contraception, the morality of the safe period, divorce, trial marriage, "petting", the sexual difficulties of middle age, artificial insemination, the morality based on the theories of Freud, the findings of the Kinsey Report and the constant erotic titillation in books, films and advertisements that betray a fundamentally infantile attitude to sex. A final chapter describes the essential need for integration of the Christian's sexual and sacramental life.
