Jung's Psychology And Its Social Meaning
C. G. Jung, one of the greatest contributors to the world's knowledge of the human psyche, was born in Switzerland in 1875. Choosing psychiatry as the area in which his two greatest interests, medicine and philosophy, came together, he received his NI.D. in 1900 and for a time associated him' self with Sigmund Freud. Later he began to question criti- cally many Freudian tenets and ultimately turned to the development of his own line of research, stressing the unity of personal and universal patterns in life. His ideas were first set forth in his Psychology of the Unconscious, published in 1912. Since then the world has come to acknowledge him as a great psychologist whose pioneering conceptions offer vital knowledge for dealing with the maladjustments of contemporary life.
Jung's concepts are not only of greatest importance to the modern world but are also exceedingly complex. The main purpose of this hook is to facilitate the process of integrating these concepts into the mainstream of contemporary thought. Jung's ideas are presented here in a form in which they can be grasped clearly and handled intellectually.
