Deliverance Prayer: Experiential, Psychological And Theological Approaches
"The prayer for deliverance from evil spirits has the potential for much good or much harm," writes Matt- Linn. For this reason – and also because of the need for an educated, serious examination of deliverance, rooted in Christian faith - the bishops' National Steering Committee of Diocesan Liaisons for the Charismatic Renewal commissioned a study. The results are published here as Deliverance Prayer.
Nine essays explore deliverance prayer in tradition, in practice, and in the light of contemporary psychology. In the final section of the book, the National Steering Committee sets forth the conclusions it draws from these essays plus a set of guidelines for the use and understanding of deliverance prayer. The focus of deliverance prayer is not on battling evil spirits but on delivering the candidate into a loving and committed relationship with Christ and his community.
