A priest relies to a young man’s question about his vocation. This begins a correspondence which follows the young man into the seminary and into the early years of his priesthood. Only one side of the correspondence is given, but it reveals the hopes and the struggles of both men as the seminarian works out the intimacy of his vocation whilst the priest who writes to him discloses his own experience and his feelings.
It is a book for prospective and actual seminars to explain the priesthood through a description of not only what a priest does, but also how he feels about doing it; it is for fellow-priest that they might see themselves reflected in it and be strengthened by it; it is for other Catholics to give them an insight into their priests, and thereby into their faith.
