Exploring The Faith We Share: A Discussion Guide For Lutherans & Roman Catholics

For 450 years since the Diet of Augsburg in 1530, Lutherans and Roman Catholics have walked their separate ways. The last fifteen years, however, have seen a remarkable resurgence of understanding between these two great communions of Christians. A series of dialogues between Lutheran and Catholic theologians in the United States has been hailed throughout the ecumenical world as-being "extraordinarily serious and productive." The Graymoor Ecumenical Institute of the Roman Catholic Atonement Friars, and Lutheran Forum, a publication of American Lutheran Publicity Bureau, have issued a call for a wider sharing of the results of the Catholic/Lutheran dialogue through the grassroots engagement of clergy and people, Their hope is to create a climate for "healing the breach of the 16th century." EXPLORING THE FAITH WE SHARE is a book that creates such a climate. It is a practical discussion guide for Christians in parishes and communities to explore the issues that both divide and unite them. It takes some of the topics that have engaged theologians and brings them down to earth in a manner that ordinary Christians can follow. Clergy and lay study groups will find it a major resource for ecumenical discussion.
