This book introduces moral education as a subject area in its own right. The author argues that it is essential to overcome intellectual, practical and above all emotional difficulties which stand in the way of progress for moral education, and he goes a long way towards achieving this aim through a discussion of possible teaching methods. The philosophical foundations of morality are generously discussed and Wilson puts forward a set of ‘moral components’ which must from the basis both of empirical research and of the development of teaching in this area. As the author points out, there is doubt about exactly how to deal with morality as a subject, but this book prepares the ground for precisely this eventually.
