One of the greatest flowerings of Christian mysticism took place in Northern Europe during the Middle Ages. The best-known figures in this tradition are Meister Eckhart and Julian of Norwich, whose writings are becoming ever more popular. Less well known, but equally interesting, are figures such as Jan van Ruusbroec, Johannes Tauler, Henry Suso and Walter Hilton.
