A Theology For Christian Education
This is the first book by a major theologian to deal directly with a theology of Christian education for the church school. Dr. Ferre is convinced that theology must be stated in educational terms if it is to be useful to Christian educators. He is also convinced that Christian theology can no longer be based on philosophical presuppositions but must use Christian categories themselves. His fresh rethinking of the Christian faith in terms of God as educator offers a way of presenting faith's message and power more relevantly to people today.
Dealing first with method, Dr. Ferre shows how the Christian faith relates itself to the work of the world as a whole. He points out the practical implications of the faith itself for the total work of the church (evangelism, worship, and social service). He shows how the educator should relate his teachings to the whole ground of secular studies to which members of the church school are exposed outside of their church activities. Examining the kinds of theology that are candidates for relating Christian education to education in general, he proposes a theology that is distinctly and centrally Christian and which can fulfill all other knowledge within the Christian concern, speaking the truth in love.
