The Reality Of Redemption

The process of secularization raises for theology and for Christian life a number of problems, one of which is that modern man has much less sense of a need for redemption. A reappraisal of this theme, in terms of present-day conditions, is therefore an imperative task for theology. The Questiones Disputatae series is the proper place for such an investigation, since breaking new theological ground is one of the series, objects.
We are now faced with a difficult question. Can free and autonomous man, who has lost his fear of nature
and the divine, still make sense of a need for redemption? Taking up the present attitude to human existence, the author first looks for a point at which the preaching of the redemption can be situated in such a way that it can expect a positive response. The decisive question here is how the act of Christ can reach into the life of each of us.
