Everyday Faith

One of the many delightful religious surprises of the post Council years has been the emergence of Father Karl Rahner as a major popular writer; not as a writer of theological vulgarization, not as a widely accepted writer of scholarly and recondite treatises of theology, but simply as a popular writer. Father Rahner writing on popular religious issues in a popular way has himself become a popular figure.
Everyday Faith is another of his books of meditations relating the gospel message of the major feasts and Sundays of the Church year to the needs and the aspirations of the ordinary Christian. Those who have read with interest and enjoyment such books as The Christian of the Future, The Church After the Council, and Prayers for Meditation, will find once again in Everyday Faith Father Rahner’s unique blending of theological acumen with the most sensible and natural piety. But there is nothing watered-down, nothing artificially simplified, and nothing cloistered about what he has to say. These meditations are as rich in meaning, yet as unadorned, as the gospel itself; they bespeak their author’s own gentle and candid manner, his kindness and patience, his openness to all who come to listen to him, whether priest or religious or layman, whether Catholic or non-Catholic.
