Eternal Life?
Hans Kung is one of the few men alive who can communicate serious theological ideas to thinking men and women of various religious convictions, and indeed to those with none. Here he argues that it is meaningless to describe life after death, but that experiences in our known lives, and the authority of Scripture, point to a continuation of being.
Focusing on the person of Jesus Christ, he shows that at the very point when his human life was over and he was left “god forsaken” on the Cross, he was exalted by his father. In the risen Christ, the disciples caught a glimpse of the new creation – creation transfigured in his person – creation where God is all in all.
It is this which offers mankind the challenge of following Christ by complete submission in death - for here , in the light of the vision of God, all human fellowship, all human endeavour are made eternal.
