This book is about priesthood, but it is not primarily concerned with ordination or with clergy. It is about all the people of God who are called to be a royal priesthood. She presents a vision of the Church as the priesthood of all believers and argues that only such an inclusive understanding of priesthood can give meaning or validity to ordination. This book encourages Christians to take the priesthood seriously: both the priesthood of all believers and, within that, the ordained ministry. It challenges the ordained to reassess their role and responsibility, and invites those whose vocation is to the laity to accept and exercise their own baptismal priesthood. All of us are privileged to belong to the people of God, and all of us are called to be priests.
