From Colonial To Liberation Psychology: The Philippine Experience

In 1987-1988, the Institute for the Study of Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, provided generous support to make the writing of a manuscript on the organization of indigenous social psychology concepts of the Philippines possible. The resulting manuscript was the monograph entitled 'Indigenous Psychology and National Consciousness,' which tackled both the sociological context of academic indigenous psychology in the Philippines and the substantive organization of indigenous psychology concepts, world-view and values on the basis of an integration of the 'sikolohiyang Pilipino' literature and analyses of group interview data using lexical elicitation frames, dictionary entries cross-validated with native speakers of the language, and the subject-index categories of the 'Sikolohiyang Plipino' resource Collection of the Philippine Psychology Research House.
