<note>Every time ww repeat ihe Apostles' Creed we affirm our belief in the communion of saints. This formula of belief has for many Christians become accepted without any great thought about what it means. Professor Lamirande shows in this book that the implications of this article of our faith are fiundamental and wide-ranging: each time we say we believe in the communionn of saints we confess the mystery of our collective vocation and our supernatural solidarity with the Church triumphant. Professor Lamirande traces in the first part of his study the history of the formula from the earliest centuries of the Church's existence to the theories of theologians of the present day. A chapter is devoted also to the communion of saints in Orthodox, Protestant and Anglican doctrine. The second part examines the foundations of the doctrine in Scripture and the writings of the Fathers and the way in which it expresses communion and unity with the Trinity. Part three explores the dimensions of the communion of saints and the final part describes the manner in which the communion of saints is an expression of the working of the economy of salvation and the way in which Christians participate in it.</note>
