Ethics Since 1900

The purpose of Mary Warnock's well-informed and discriminating book is to provide a brief account of the main ethical problems which have been discussed in the present century 1n England, the United States, and France. A certain number of the writings which deal with these problems, among them those of Bradley, Moore, Prichard, Ayer, Stevenson, and Sartre, have been considered and analysed in some detail. They have been taken in chronological order and have been selected from the many books and articles on moral philosophy as those most likely to be of lasting importance for the subject. Mrs. Warnock has been Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at St. Hugh's College, Oxford, and was recently appointed Headmistress of Oxford High School for Girls; she is the wife of Mr. G. J. Warnock, Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at Magdalen College, Oxford, the author of English Philosophy since 1900 it the Home University Library.
